Trade: Mark Teixeira ($27) for Johan Santana ($35)
Ref's call: APPROVED
This trade is very fair. Mark Teixeira valued at $27 playing in Atlanta will be worth every penny and possibly more. With Pujols’ elbow issues and Fielder’s youth, he could easily finish the year ranked number 2 among 1B’s in the NL (behind Ryan Howard). Upon getting traded to Atlanta just before the trade deadline, Tex hit .317 with 17 HR and 56 RBI. Tex has been a model of consistency over his career with 4 straight 30 home run, 100 RBI seasons. He is a player that helps big in 3 of your 4 categories, and many expect Tex to return to hitting 40+ homers with the Braves. And despite last year’s quad strain, he has remained very healthy throughout his major league service. The only downside is his pending free agency, which could mean a move to the AL.
Johan Santana valued at $35 dollars is a get what you pay for kind of player. Pitching for the Mets in the NL, expect another 20 win season. He is another player whose numbers have been consistently great for 4 years. Expect a whip around 1 and an era around 3. Jake Peavy may have slightly better numbers come the end of the season, but Johan is right there as the ace of the NL. On the flip side, since your league removes Ks from the equation, he can only contributes to 3 of the 4 categories. And pitchers are always more susceptible to injury than, say, a 1B. Given Teixeira’s contract year status, this straight up trade is very fair. Both teams involved in the trade gain a fantasy stud that has the potential to produce even bigger numbers than expected. The hype that surrounds Johan on draft day will soon surround Teixeira when he returns to Turner field.

Trade offered: Ryan Howard and 18th pick overall for Jose Reyes and 7th pick overall (50 protected players)
Ref's advice: REJECT TRADE OFFER
We have reached a unanimous decision that you should NOT make this trade. I don't like this for you at all. With keepers like Cabrera, V-Mart, and Cano (who I would keep, although he is such a slow starter), you have very good power with no speed if you lose Reyes. With Reyes in a head to head, you could win SB's almost every week. Any decent speedster who produces across the board like(Sizemore, Soriano, etc.) will be protected. To have a guy like Reyes who basically produces like 2 sb guys AND has the potential to hit 15-20 home runs is so valuable. Throw in that your middle infield positions are locked up and you are looking good.
Were you to trade for Howard, sure you would have a tons more home runs and RBI's, but you would be scrambling for SB's. Also, the difference between the 7th pick and 18th pick overall even with protected players is huge. With those other first round picks, you can get a great pitcher or big bat to make up for letting Howard go. Anywhere you look, Reyes is ranked ahead or very close to Howard. Bottom line: Assuming they were equal, you would be just trading a the 7th overall pick for the 18th overall pick. I would hold on to Reyes and trade him down the road if you find yourself with an extreme surplus of steals |
